Working hypothesis

"Fixer" · repair / restoration

The strongest working hypothesis: F1XR is the studio's repair and restoration practice — right-to-repair adjacent work, the discipline of keeping existing objects in service rather than replacing them. A sibling to BXBX's commodity-envelopes thesis at the maintenance layer: just as BXBX argues for using existing envelopes, F1XR would argue for maintaining existing objects.

This would sit naturally alongside the studio's broader catalogue. Toronto has a meaningful repair economy (electronics, appliances, bikes, clothing); the studio could publish research on the actual state of repair access in 2026 and build tools or products that make the repair economy more legible.
